Hardcore Personality

Now we talk about the personality of Hardcore punk music which I would say that is the same as the kwaito personality however let me not base my judgment on predictions but let me research.

“Hardcore punk (or referred to simply as hardcore) is a punk rock music genre that originated in the late 1970s. Hardcore is generally faster, heavier, and more abrasive than regular punk rock. The origin of the term "hardcore punk" is uncertain. (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hardcore_punk)

In the vein of punk rock, most bands followed the traditional singer/guitar/bass/drum format. The songwriting had more emphasis on rhythm rather than melody. Hardcore vocalists screamed, chanted and used spoken word poetry. Drummers would play fast D beat one moment and then drop tempo into elaborate musical breakdowns the next. Guitarists were not afraid to play solos, octave leads, and grooves as well as tapping into the various feedback and harmonic noises available to them. The guitar sound was almost always distorted and amplified. (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hardcore_punk)

So I think that we would agree that even though maybe the lyrics of hardcore punk are not of anger (perhaps) but overall performance and sing of this genre is loud to the certain extent that it is considered screaming, and we scream when expressing anger which leads me to the conclusion of that hardcore punk’s personality is also anger.

The personality of Kwaito

Let talk about the personality of kwai-core music but in order to understand and grasp the personality of this genre we first need to understand the personality of kwaito and of hard core punk before unpacking Kwai-core which will compromise of both.
Let’s start with Kwaito
“The word Kwaito is derived from the Afrikaans word “kwaai”, which translates to "angry" in English. In colloquial slang, negative words or phrases often acquire a positive connotation or "cool" status. “ (www.sahistory.org.za)
Kwaito music personality is said to be of aggression and anger, the beats as well are very loud and not soothing, so overall we may say that the personality of kwaito is anger, but anger because of what?  This then bring me to my next point which causes a link between the time that kwaito music was realized and the reason for it’s personality.

“Kwaito is about the township, knowing about the township, understanding the township, walking the walk, talking the talk and most importantly, being proud of these things. The township is being celebrated by the youth of South Africa in Kwaito music; this is interesting when one considers that the township was created to keep a ready supply of cheap labour under control by the apartheid government.” (www.sahistory.org.za)

Now I think we can understand why this genre of music has a angry personality, because even though democracy was upon us some people were still angry and expressed their angry through music which was the result in Kwaito in the 1990s

The continuation of BLK JKS

S let’s refresh our memories because I know you guys are getting a little excited with all this information, and of course I am mass producing stacks of it and digesting it can get a little hard

Let’s start over…

Now and then it’s easy to guess that Blk Jks are from Johannesburg and are an African band on their four-song “Mystery EP”. That’s when they go bounding into three-chord South African township grooves in “Lakeside” or overlay the reggae foundation of “Summer time” with syncopated guitars. But Blk Jks make their music in a global swirl of possibilities; they are an art-rock band...While the lyrics (mostly in English) ponder philosophical quandaries — “All the wise men ’round the world don’t know the answers” — the band’s quick-fingered, multilayered vamps well up out of murky echoes, piling jubilation atop the anxiety, before submerging again (www.secretlycanadian.com\artist)

More BLK JKS

1.BLK JKS, full name known as “The Black Jacks” are a rock band from Johannesburg South Africa however I’d like to say that they are a very special “Rock band” that compromises of all music genre elements, whether its Kwaito beats and Hard Core Punk Guitars with very smooth lyrics. Either way they are a special band with a special kind of music.  There are four members of the band and they are from East Rand and Soweto.
In 2007 they started releasing their music internationally with a 10-inch vinyl EP. They linked up with producer “Diplo” and shortly after they were secretly signed by American rock label secretly Canadian. This led to the release of an EP, a full-length album, an international tour and a lot of media attention from the likes of Fader magazine. In 2010 the band did collaboration with Dj Tiesto and performed at the opening concert for the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg.
